Presented in the spirit of Hokusai's and Hiroshige's world famous print series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" from the early 1800's. This open call to all artists, will accept the best 36 pieces submitted in any and all media, size, and styles that include, from whatever angle or point of view, Honolulu's most iconic landscape.

Oahu-based artist Masami Teraoka was born in Onomichi, Hiroshima-ken, Japan. He graduated in 1959 with a B.A. in aesthetics from Kwansei Gakuin University, and received an M.F.A. from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1968. His early paintings often focused on the clash of his two cultures- East and West, such as McDonald's Hamburgers Invading Japan. His recent large-scale paintings are inspired by Renaissance paintings but continue the narrative quality of Japanese woodblock prints. Teraoka has been the subject of more than 70 solo exhibitions, including traveling exhibits organized by Whitney Museum of American Art, The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, and Yale University Art Gallery. In 1996 he had a solo exhibition at Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution and in 1997 at Asian Art Museum, San Francisco. Teroka's work was recently featured in a solo exhibition at Honolulu Museum of Art, Samuel Freeman Gallery in Los Angeles, and group exhibitions in New York, Paris, and Tokyo. His work can also be seen in more than 50 public collections worldwide, including Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Tate Modern in London, Queensland Art Gallery in Australia, and Gallery of Modern Art in Scotland. Teraoka has exhibited with Catherine Clark Gallery in San Francisco since 1998.

Marks is home to 13 performing and visual arts businesses including Youth Speaks Hawaii and Hawaii Shakespeare Festival. 45,000 visitors attend 13 exhibits and 150 performances each year. Marks and HAPA staff co-founded Chinatown's most popular event, First Friday Honolulu and also manage Chinatown Artists Lofts providing 13 live/work spaces, and Chinatown Art Corps providing afterschool programming for at-risk teenagers.
