ames McCarthy weaves together a totally unique program of songs in a "Celebration of Voice" for this month's First Friday event on November 7 at HiSAM.

His set list will include ancient ballads, familiar folk songs, unique singer/songwriter compositions, American standards and his own wide ranging original compositions.

It will also be a great opportunity for audience members to celebrate their own voices. McCarthy is a song leader and plans to weave easy and memorable sing-alongs (no obliga- tion or pressure!) as part of his contribution to the evening's music.

Best known for his work with children and his role as the lead singer for Hawaii's Celtic band Doolin Rakes, the t said McCarthy draws from a vast repertoire of songs across many genres with influences as diverse as Pete Seeger, Tom Waits and Ella Fitzgerald.

A big mahalo goes out to Dayton Watanabe, our per- former during our October First Friday event. As expected, Dayton's mix of traditional Hawaiian slack key and standard tunings kept the audience pleased and wanting more. Get into the holiday spirit in December when Harpist Ruth Freedman visits for First Friday on Dec. 5. Ruth's an- gelic harp music reverberates through the galleries, and along with the Art in Public Places Collection, creates a heavenly holiday experience.

Image & Imagination is an exhibition of 38 curiosity-inspiring artworks in a variety of media. Drawn from the Art in Public Places Collection, these pieces were selected to act as a catalyst for response in museum visitors.

ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM

The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol.
