The Hawai‘i Opera Theatre's Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio members will perform famous arias, ensembles, as well as some musical theatre.

Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio is a training program for Hawai‘i's premier vocal talent. Members of the studio receive training and performance experiences that include classes and seminars in movement, musical style, language, repertoire coaching and master classes.

First Friday is a downtown gallery walk held on the first Friday of every month. Galleries and museums, including the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, are open for the event which is free to the public.

The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts will open a new exhibition "Hawaii: Change & Continuity" on September 4, 2015, at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. The exhibition will feature selected artworks from the SFCA's Art in Public Places Collection.

The 50th anniversary exhibition explores how artistic expressions define the character of our changing civilization and how artists define our aspirations and make a profound contribution toward explaining who we are.

As civilizations change, it is artistic expressions that define their character. In Hawai‘i, the creative efforts of our artists make a profound contribution toward explaining who we are and defining our aspirations. Through the works of artists we come to better know ourselves.

ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM

The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol.
