The Eighth Annual Survey Exhibition of Contemporary Photography in Hawai‘i can be seen at The ARTS at Marks Garage from March 29 through April 9, 2016.

This juried exhibition was open to all artists using photographic processes, analog or digital, color or black and white, alternative processes and mixed media explorations. Sponsored by Pacific New Media -- a branch of the University of Hawai‘i Mānoa Outreach College -- this exhibition is meant to offer photography artists a venue for exhibiting work, and to provide a snapshot of the "state of the art" of contemporary photography in Hawai‘i. Amateurs and professionals were welcome to submit images.

To be considered for exhibition, all images must have been created within the past two years, not previously exhibited in Hawai‘i, and submitters must be Hawai‘i residents.

This juried exhibition includes 52 photographs selected from 450 submissions from over 100 photographers from Oah‘u, Kaua‘i and the Big Island.

Featured artists include: Lance Agena, Mark Anderson, Alison Beste, Hawkings Biggins, Cheyenne Dean, Jeff DePonte, Marian Diop, Daniel Finchum, Rut Shiroma Foster, Berkeley Fowler, Glen Fukanaga, Roy Fukushima, Kat Gallagher, Leslie Gleim, Jordan Guillory, Stephen Haynes, Carrie Johnson, Kenyatta Kelechi, Cliff Kiumra, James Knudsen, Chang Less, Warren R. Loos, Matt Mallams, Lillian McLeod, Liz Miller, Michael Ogasawara, Tyson Oshiro, Art Pascua, Atis Puampai, Jon Rawlings, Sean Rivera, Donald Rostow, Joseph Ruesing, Ryan Sakamoto, Shane Sakata, Jon Shimizu, David Takagi, Manu Talamoa, Phil Uhl, Jeanne Viggiano, Marc Yoakum and Mark Yugawa.

The exhibition is juried by James "Jay" Jensen, curator of contemporary art at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Jay was associate director/chief curator of The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu (1991-2011). From 1976 to 1991, he worked at the Honolulu Academy of Arts as administrative assistant to the director (1976-77), publications editor (1977-84), assistant curator, and curator of western art (1982-91).

There will be an opening reception at The ARTS at Marks Garage on Friday, April 1, from 6:00-8:00PM. The award ceremony will begin at 6:30PM. This reception is open to the public and is free of charge.
