FIRST FRIDAY EVENT AND COUPON

On the First Friday of every month beginning on July 1st, join us at the Honolulu Museum of Contemporary Pop for a night of Jazz with The Tropic Kings! Featuring Kirk Thompson on Piano & Keyboard, Alvin Fejarang on Drums, Bob Hernandez on Bass, Tod Tsukano on Guitar, Ambrose Splescia on Sax & Bobo Butires on Percussions.

LOCATION (Outside The Downtown/Chinatown Area)

The Honolulu Museum of Contemporary Pop is not located in the immediate Downtown/Chinatown are but offers a important Hawaii art and culture experience the community should know about. SHOW TIMES

90-minute show at 6:30-8:00PM and also the second show at 8:30-10PM. Ticket are $45 per person.

LOCATION

The Honolulu Museum of Contemporary Pop is in the 800 Mauka Plaza Building Located across from the Police Station. Parking Lot is located on the KinauSt. side of the building. While on Beretania St, turn right at the traffic light at the corner of Home World, Turn right onto Kinau St, go through the yield sign and turn right into the parking lot right before the stop sign. Take the stairs or elevator down to the first floor. Museum is located beneath the parking lot.

About Us

The Honolulu Museum of Contemporary Pop with its Pioneers of Pop Exhibit & Recording Studio Show room and Gift Shop are subsidiaries of the Hawaii National Music Foundation of the Pacific.

The Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization was founded in 1998 by its President Kirk Thompson, an original member of the group Kalapana and Lemuria has been dedicated to educating our youth and adults of Hawaii on our industry of music.

Our goal and mission is to perpetuate and preserve National Achievements in the endowment arts (music) through specialized education programs 1) Assist and give preference to children and youth of the Pacific Rim 2) Foster the development of their highest potential as effective participants; and 3) Provide meaningful educational opportunities as resources permit.

Current Exhibit: Pioneers of Pop Exhibit

The Museum of Contemporary Pop will take you on a unique self guided journey through a half century of Hawaii's historic contemporary pop music scene providing an audio/visual experience w/multilingual tablets along with pictures & displays of the islands Pioneers of Pop. Learn about the legendary recording artists who gained National/International recognition & signed onto major record labels outside of Hawaii. Something that was hard to obtain by bands /artists in the creative arts, especially from the islands. It features a turning point and breakthrough accredited to the insight & support of legendary island Promoter/Pop radio founder Tom Moffatt "Showman of the Pacific"

and entertainer "Ambassador of the Pacific", Don Ho.

Step into the historic recording studio, see where the music is recorded and produced . It's all part of the Pioneers of Pop Exhibit Tour.

Tue, Wed & Thurs 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Mon & Fri CLOSED

Spectrum Recording Studio

Recording Studio Hours of Operation:

Mon & Fri: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Interested in recording? Studio time is available at $75/hr by appointment only. Complete CD production with song/graphics/photo on the cover available . . . . . . Become a recording artist!

Student Programs

The Honolulu Museum of Contemporary Pop through the Hawaii National Music Foundation of the Pacific offers several different Student Programs.

1) Interactive Program for visiting students from the Mainland & International Cities.

Times: This is a 2-Hour Program available Mon & Fri mornings or afternoons.

Inclusions:

  • The Foundation will provide a music business & recording industry orientation.
  • Q&A with visiting students & Record Producer- Kirk Thompson.
  • 1 Hour for students to experience the Pioneers of Pop Exhibit.
  • Complimentary souvenir for each visiting student.

Capacity: 45 students

2) Inter-Active Program for Hawaii's Public & Private Schools.

Times: This is a 2-Hour Program available Tue, Wed & Thurs mornings

Inclusions:

  • The Foundation will provide a music business & recording industry orientation.

  • 1 Hour for students to experience the Pioneers of Pop Exhibit.
  • Complimentary souvenir for each visiting student.

3) This Business of Music Seminar

  • 4 hour Seminar & Manual
  • Covers: Songwriting/Composing Music, Copyrighting, Publishing Recording Procedures (Fees) & Graphic Art Production, Producing Product Manufacturing, Marketing, Mechanical Licensing and more....

4) Recording Engineering and Producing Workshops

Times: Mon & Fri by reservation only

Inclusions:

  • Ten - 4 hour Workshops & Manual
  • Student will learn how an album is Recorded, Engineered and Produced from beginning to end. Including how to set up for recording, mixdown and mastering etc. Towards the end of the Workshop, (s)he will be asked to record a person or group producing a project upon completion.
