HAWAII STATE ART MUSEUM

FIRST FRIDAY: PIANIST JULIA STOYANOV

Pianist Julia Stoyanov was born in Fukushima, Japan, the daughter of conductor/composer Boris Stoyanov and pianist Rikako Akatsu Stoyanov. She started to play piano at the age of three and, by the age of twelve was invited to perform at Chopin's house in Poland. A recipient of many awards, she has given concerts nationally and internally.

Julia will be presenting two programs, from from 6:00 -- 7:15 p.m., the other from 7:45 -- 8:30 p.m. Come and enjoy an evening of piano with this talented, young artist.

First Friday is a downtown gallery walk held on the first Friday of every month. Galleries and museums, including the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, are open for the event which is free to the public.

The newest exhibition at the Hawaii State Art Museum showcases recently acquired artworks from the Art in Public Places Collection of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.

HAWAI‘I: Change & Continuity tells the story of the past examining the overlapping influences of nature's bounty and human impact on a fragile environment. 2nd floor, ‘Ewa gallery.

He Makana: The Gertrude Mary Joan Damon Haig Collection of Hawaiian Art, Painting and Prints is a distinguished collection of traditional Hawaiian crafts, paintings and prints presented to the state of Hawai‘i in honor of the life of Mary Joan Damon Haig. 2nd floor, Diamond Head gallery.

ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM

The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol.
