FIRST FRIDAY: PARTNERS IN TIME ~ BALKAN FOLK MUSIC

Playing music from the Balkans and the Near/Middle East, particularly Armenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Greece, Partners in Time will take us on a musical journey.

Besides playing traditional ethnic music, the group also mixes some jazz styling and original jazz-fusion compositions into its music. Improvisational segments are incorporated within many of the tunes, a common practice in both Balkan/Near Eastern music and jazz. The group's instrumentation includes guitar, accordion, dumbek (hand drum), frame drum, and bass.

First Friday is a downtown gallery walk held on the first Friday of every month. Galleries and museums, including the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, are open for the event which is free to the public. More details to come.
