First Friday at Downbeat - Kaleidoscope Edition

Downbeat and DJ Jet Boy present First Friday at Downbeat - Kaleidoscope Edition. Honolulu's longest-running indie rock night returns to its First Friday roots and the days of Detox, Club Pauahi and old Chinatown venus. Featuring live music by Half Step Down, Castle Park and The Maneki Nekos.

Half Step Down originated in Honolulu, HI in September of 2014. Each member of Half Step Down brings their own sense of musical originality and as a collective, this band creates a unique amalgamate of alternative sound. All listening ears will hear overtones of analytical metal and punk, to indie and soul. Rhythmic sounds drive each song forward and melodic overlay instill a sense of calm.

CASTLE PARK are a Hawaii-based band specializing in golden era hip-hop & the proliferation of heavy vibes. "We're pretty sure the 80's theme park named themselves after us."

THE MANEKI NEKOS are a five-piece independent rock band based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Their sound could be described as bluesy garage-rock with a bit of soul, inspired by the likes of The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Radio Moscow, The Kills, and Band of Skullshttp://www.themanekinekos.com/

KALEIDOSCOPE is an indie music concept created by Josh86 and DJ Vagina in 2003, to showcase local bands that fall outside of the mainstream. The genres explored range from punk to soul to disco to folk. It helped build a scene with acts such as Linus the Band, The Malcognitas, Le Tenia, At Sea, Painted Highways, Gary Liu, Sabrina, DJ Jet Boy and more

About Downbeat Diner and Lounge

The Downbeat Diner & Lounge is located at 42 North Hotel Street Next to Manifest & across from 39 Hotel.

Serving quality classic diner favorites; burgers, house made vegan burgers, fries, milkshakes, sandwiches, nonstop breakfast, and desserts with vegetarian and vegan options for every menu item. Downbeat is open 11am-3am M-TR and 11am- 4am on the weekends.

Downbeat Diner is inspired by classic American diners and serves up many familiar dishes like burgers, sandwiches, milkshakes, and fries, but also focuses on healthy vegetarian and vegan options as well. Along with this, Downbeat only uses grass fed Hawaii free range beef for their hamburgers, and as much local produce as possible. Downbeat believes that good comfort food should come from good sources and should be enjoyed by omnivores and vegetarians alike.

We sat at the bar and our very friendly bartender - Serena - gave us menus and gave us the breakdown about their alcohol policy."

The basket of fritters are a MUST GET, though. Big pieces, a cup of caramel sauce, and fritters so soft and sweet that the sauce is almost an after thought. if you MUST get dessert, get the basket of fritters.
