First Thursdays continues its no rules summer with another quality show on June 2nd. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time rule will still remain in effect.
The special feature for this show is Jason Carney, who was honored as a national legend of slam poetry in 2006 and 2007. He has appeared on several seasons of the HBO television show Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam and has been seen on the national geographic channel. Carney is a former skinhead who, in a rehabilitation center in his youth, had a life changing experience when he roomed with a gay man who was dying from AIDS. He now uses poetry to continue to reform himself and heal others. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.
