FIRST THURSDAYS: $100 NATIONALLY CERTIFIED SLAM POETRY COMPETITION AND OPEN MIC... An evening of performance poetry, music, and live art hosted by Kealoha. Featuring Marc Marcel (International Touring Poet), See (Hip-Hop Theatre), and the No Rules summer. Team pieces, musical accompaniment, cover poems, props, etc are ALLOWED. Winner of the night receives $100. LOCATION: Fresh Cafe, 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street), Thursday 8/2/2012, 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm, and $5 after. First Thursdays continues its no rules summer with another quality show on August 2nd. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time rule will still remain in effect.

The special features for this show are Marc Marcel and See. Marc Marcel is a poet who has performed in over 150 American Cities and 4 Countries. He has made 5 National Television appearances including Lyrics Cafe, No Reservations, and a skit for The Jimmy Kimmel Show. He has also graced the stages of many legendary venues including the Smithsonian in Washington, DC for President Obama s Presidential Inaugural Peace Ball, as well as Scion Night at Knots Scary Farm (in front of 12,000 people). Our 2nd feature is See (also known as Cristian Ellauri), who teaches spoken word/hip-hop and nature skills in the Bay Area. He has blessed the mic as Master of Ceremonies at over 80 festivals and events across the country. See is the founder of Honolulu s Ong King Arts Center. He has written and directed three full-scale hip-hop theatre productions: Hip-Hopalypse, Jaguar Priests and Chase. In 2009-10 his solo hip-hop theatre performance, The Fool Truth, toured festivals throughout the USA. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Join us this Thursday (August 2nd) for a jam-packed installment of First Thursdays at Fresh Cafe!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:

-- A "No Rules" Slam. Team pieces, musical accompaniment, cover poems, props, etc are ALLOWED (poets/performers please see note at the bottom of this email). This is the last "No Rules" slam of the summer (we start our official slam qualifier season in September), so come witness the creative artistry!!

-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Toki (Sisters in Sound)

-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka`uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, and Hanam Mun)
