FIRST THURSDAYS: $100 NATIONALLY CERTIFIED SLAM POETRY COMPETITION AND OPEN MIC... An evening of performance poetry, music, and live art hosted by Kealoha. Featuring Matthew Cuban (Southern Fried Poetry Champion). Winner of the night receives $100. LOCATION: Fresh Cafe, 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street), Thursday 2/7/2013, 8:30pm. PRESS RELEASE:

The 10th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (February 7th, 2013). The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals in April 2013 that will determine the team to represent Hawai`i at the 2013 National Poetry Slam in Boston, Massachusetts.

The special feature for this show is Matthew Cuban. He is a Southern Fried Poetry Slam Champion who has been a guest performer for the PGA, Wutang Clan, and NPR. He also was the featured Artist on the Red Bull North America Poetry Gives You Wings Tour, the "Sun Shine and Bluegrass Tour," and the "Poetry For a Living Tour." As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Happy New Year!! Join us this Thursday (January 3rd) for a top-notch installment of First Thursdays at Fresh Cafe!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:
