The Teachings of Anthony de Mello and Forgiveness
Integrating Christian Mysticism,
A Course In Miracles, and Vipassana
With Richard Hennessey
Richard Hennessey will present on the teachings of Anthony de Mello and how they relate to forgiveness through the integration of Christian mysticism, A Course In Miracles, and Vipassana, the heart of Buddhist meditation. The presentation will be experiential, including meditation. It will also be practical as Richard will share de Mello's 4 Steps to returning to inner peace and your true nature, a daily practice.
Anthony de Mello, a Jesuit priest from India, was a psychologist, spiritual director and a modern day mystic. His teachings were thought provoking and quite radical. He drew from many diverse spiritual traditions, especially melding Buddhism with mystical Christianity. Known for his warmth, wit, and wisdom, he did much of his teaching through stories. The essence of his teachings has been likened to that of A Course In Miracles. As Tony once said: "The best religion in the world is the religion called 'love'....There is only one need, the need to love." Or we in Hawaii might say: "to extend aloha."
Richard Hennessey, LCSW, teaches Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and practices psychotherapy at the Chinatown Peace Center in Honolulu. He has practiced mindfulness meditation for over 24 years and psychotherapy for over 34. Richard discovered Anthony de Mello in 1991 and in 1999 began offering workshops on de Mello's teachings based on Tony's video "A Rediscovery of Life." Presently, Richard facilitates two Anthony de Mello book studies in Honolulu.
