36 Views of Leahi (Diamond Head). Juried by Masami Teraoka.

August 12, to September 27, 2014 at The ARTS at Marks Garage

Presented in the spirit of Hokusai's and Hiroshige's world famous print series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" from the early 1800's. This open call to all artists, will accept the best 36 pieces submitted in any and all media, size, and styles that include, from whatever angle or point of view, Honolulu's most iconic landscape.

Image and Payment Deadline: Friday, August 1, 2014.

Entry fee: $15 per piece. 3 entries per artist, maximum. Payment is easy via cash, check, credit card or Paypal at 1159 Nuuanu Ave. Honolulu HI 96817 or at artatmarks.com. Submit images via jpegs only at info@artsatmarks.com. Only paid entries will be juried. Over 2,000 people are expected to see this show over the course of seven weeks and First Friday Honolulu. Installation would be on Sunday, August 10, 2014 and pick-up of un-sold work would be on Sunday, September 28, 2014. Two-dimensional, three-dimensional, digital, and performance-based works accepted. Oahu-based artist Masami Teraoka was born in Onomichi, Hiroshima-ken, Japan. He graduated in 1959 with a B.A. in aesthetics from Kwansei Gakuin University, and received an M.F.A. from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1968. His early paintings often focused on the clash of his two cultures- East and West, such as McDonald's Hamburgers Invading Japan. His recent large-scale paintings are inspired by Renaissance paintings but continue the narrative quality of Japanese woodblock prints. Teraoka has been the subject of more than 70 solo exhibitions, including traveling exhibits organized by Whitney Museum of American Art, The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, and Yale University Art Gallery. In 1996 he had a solo exhibition at Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution and in 1997 at Asian Art Museum, San Francisco. Teroka's work was recently featured in a solo exhibition at Honolulu Museum of Art, Samuel Freeman Gallery in Los Angeles, and group exhibitions in New York, Paris, and Tokyo. His work can also be seen in more than 50 public collections worldwide, including Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Tate Modern in London, Queensland Art Gallery in Australia, and Gallery of Modern Art in Scotland. Teraoka has exhibited with Catherine Clark Gallery in San Francisco since 1998.
