UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA
ART EXHIBITION: RE / CHARTING: BRYAN CZIBESZ + SHAWN SPANGLER August 25 -- September 19, 2014 University of Hawai‘i Art Gallery, Art Building, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa
The practice of ceramics is implicitly tied to ideas of culture, labor, art, utility, and technology. These issues are considered in Re / Charting, featuring the individual and collaborative works of Bryan Czibesz and Shawn Spangler. Czibesz's pieces consist of mechanical configurations that explore technology as material prosthesis. Spangler's pieces reflect inspiration from craft, design, and technology.
The artists' collaborations are grounded in a synthesis of formal content, technologies, and processes that include wheel-, mold-, and hand-forming, as well as digital 3D scanning, CNC prototyping, and 3D printing using a machine that Czibesz built. Their work maps new passages through historical and emergent ceramic practices. PUBLIC EVENTS: Sunday, August 31, 2014 2 -- 3 pm, Public lecture Art Auditorium. Free admission.
