The ARTS at Marks Garage
‘Āina Aloha, MURAL Installation & Exhibition
Extended Through Oct. 10th!
A touring, story-telling mural about Hawaiʻi's history and healing, from a Hawaiian point of view
Oct. 2, 1st Friday Reception, 6-9 PM
will offer audiences an opportunity to bring new viewers to the exhibition & artist conversation. Talk-story with artists and filmmakers and a video screening of Ku ‘u ‘Āina Aloha film sketch will be offered. DJ Native Girl and the Bar @ Marks with Kona Brews will be on hand. Artists' individual works will also be available for sale. Tours for schools/organizations available - please inquire.
The ʻĀINA ALOHA mural installation is a visual offering that invites reflection and furthers conversation about intergenerational/historical trauma regarding Hawaiiʻs history. The Mural is part of a larger project aimed at healing and uniting communities. It is intended to join the feature-length, documentary film Kuʻu 'Āina Aloha, Beloved Land, Beloved Country as it tours throughout the islands and beyond-- inviting local communities to bring awareness and elevate engagement amongst diverse groups of people living in the islands. www.kuuainaaloha.com
The 20ft by 6ft two-sided painted canvas enables audiences to respond intimately (i.e. dancing, singing, touching) in ways that can begin paths of deeper reflection; remembering Hawaiʻi's history while working to reconcile and become active agents for positive change.
EXTENDED Mural Showing: September 1- OCT. 10th, 2015 Mural Artists: Al Lagunero, Meleanna Meyer, Harinani Orme, Kahi Ching, Carl Pao & Solomon Enos
Filmmakers: Meleanna Aluli Meyer and David H. Kalama, Jr.
