Hawai‘i Pacific University Presents
William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing
Hawai‘i Pacific University's Theater Program is proud to present its spring mainstage offering, Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. The show is HPU's first Shakespeare production in 19 years. Directed by Po‘okela Award-winning theatre artist, Troy M. Apostol, performances will take place April 8, 9, 15, 16 at 7:30 p.m., and April 10, 17 at 4:00 p.m.
One of Shakespeare's most beloved plays, Much Ado About Nothing, opens with the Prince Don Pedro's (Eli K. M. Forest) soldiers arriving at the estate of Leonato (Dennis Proulx), governor of Messina. From there, the macho military men, as well as the lovely ladies of Messina, conspire to bring together two couples: the young Claudio (Oeyvind Aanderaa) and Leonato's sweet daughter, Hero (Rebecca Hamburg); and the braggart Benedick (Alan Shepard) and Leonato's wild niece, Beatrice (Andrea Valencia). Meanwhile, the villain Don John (Joshua Aiu) takes his revenge by breaking apart Claudio and Hero's marriage via deception and slander. Hero falls dead at the altar. But is she really dead? Will the show have a happy ending? Is it really much ado about "nothing"? Join us this April to find out!
