The July gallery exhibit at The ARTS at Marks Garage will feature large murals that were created by residents of Molokai, including children and kapuna, with well-established artists Solomon Enos, Kahi Ching, Meleanna Meyer, Harinane Orme and Al Lagunero. These eight banners visually depict the endangered oral tradition of storytelling.

The ARTS at Marks gallery is open to the public Tuesday - Saturday and is free to the public.

Opening Reception: In conjunction with the DiscoverArt 2nd Saturday series, there will be a pa'ina on Saturday July 9, 11am to 2pm at which kids from Molokai will be at The ARTS at Marks Garage to tell the stories from the murals.

"When the keiki share these stories about giants, ghosts, poison wood, caterpillar men and more, they preserve anecdotes and lessons learned from their kapuna relevant and applicable to our lives today" says artist and project organizer Meleanna Meyer. She goes on to say: "the gallery will be bedecked in Molokai splendor with music, foods and sketches."

DiscoverArt accomplishes two things: it provides interactive opportunities for people to experience art and allows artists to share their craft and artistry. Every Second Saturday of the month visitors might find music, theatre, demonstrations, mini-classes, craft displays, make-and-take projects and other creative surprises. The type of art and specific artists and locations changes every Second Saturday, making DiscoverArt an organic, ever-surprising experience.

The ARTS at Marks Garage is supported in part by Kumu Kahua Theatre - presenting world-class theatre by and about Hawai‘i's people in the heart of downtown Honolulu, Spire Hawai‘i, Kaiser Permanente, Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and Arts, Colliers International, Hawai‘i Community Foundation, O‘io Fund, Kona Brewing Company and 1001 Friends.
