Forgiveness and Reconciliation
A new series of workshop discussions
First meeting this Friday, September 2
Friends:
We have published a gallery of images of Hawai'i International Forgiveness Day, from early August. You can view the gallery here; video will be forthcoming.
The Hawaii Forgiveness Project has changed the location and time for our monthly meetings. Our next meeting is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm this Friday, September 2.
Please join us at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in the Von Holt Room, downtown Honolulu.
We are beginning an exciting 4-month project in conjunction with the Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center (http://www.pjrcpeace.org)
Reconciliation:
What is it? Who needs it? How do we accomplish it?
In the first meeting this Friday, and in the following three sessions on the first Friday of October, November, and December, we will develop a plan for reconciliation among the people of Hawai'i.
We will talk about the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom almost 120 years ago.
It is sometimes the "elephant in the room" when we talk about change and forgiveness.
What can we do as individuals, to strengthen relationships among ourselves for the benefit of our community, to face this reality?
Governments can only do so much. The people must be ready.
The Hawaii Forgiveness Project has discussed this issue often in our 15 year history. Now we are taking the time given generously to us by the Pacific Justice people, who deeply understand the Hawaiian people, to develop a specific action plan.
What might develop? Ho'oponopono sessions? Truth and Reconciliation public meetings? Community meetings? Theater? Art exhibits? Marches? Articles, blogs, book discussions, films? Meetings with grassroots community groups, business, church, government, academic leaders?
Please help us explore this important terrirtory together.
For many years, we have been understanding forgiveness to heal our own grief, resentment and attachment to the past, and gratitude as an adjunct for that work and also to reduce fear of the future.
In order to take the next step now, reconciliation requires that we work together.
Much love and aloha
