Hawaii Theatre Center presents

CHRISTOPHER MORGAN & ARTISTS: POHAKU

Pōhaku is a dance theater piece bringing together storytelling, hula, modern dance, classical music, and projection design to explore compelling universal themes in the story of Hawaii's native people, including land loss and fractured identity. Choreographer Christopher Morgan danced hula as a child in California, far from his family's Native Hawaii. As he developed a body of work in modern dance, he longed to connect his Native Hawaiian artistic and personal roots to his contemporary work. Come see modern dance with a local flavor, at it's best!

THE 6TH ANNUAL MISS VAMP HAWAII BEAUTY PAGEANT

Miss Vamp Hawaii was created in 2010 and is a yearly production held in October to honor the beautiful, creative and unique women living in Hawaii. Similar to other pageants, it features the traditional Q&A, a gown/costume competition, crowning the winners with sashes, trophies and prizes. However, unique to this pageant, the "Moonlight Bathing Lingerie Competition," is the highlight of the evening honoring the moon, unlike the traditional bathing suit competition.

View Hawaii Theatre Event Calendar
Proclaimed as the "Pride of the Pacific," the beautiful Hawaii Theatre, built by the Consolidated Amusement Company, opened its doors September 6, 1922 in downtown Honolulu. The Hawaii Theatre operated as a showplace for vaudeville, plays, musicals and silent films until it fell into disrepair and the land lease was abandoned by Consolidated in 1984.

In 1986, the Hawaii Theatre Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation was formed to save the Hawaii Theatre from the wrecking ball and in May 1996, the Hawaii Theatre reopened its doors as a 1400-seat, multi-purpose, state-of-the art performance center.

The Hawaii Theatre was recognized as the 'Outstanding Historic Theatre in America' in 2005 by the League of Historic American Theatres and, in 2006, was awarded an Honor Award by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, the Hawaii Theatre is available for all of Hawaii to enjoy.
