Iolani Performing Arts Department Presents: CURTAINS When the leading lady of a beleaguered Broadway-bound musical comedy drops dead in the middle of her opening night bows, its up to Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, chief sleuth (and musical theatre aficionado) to discover the culprit. He quickly finds that everyone has a motive and a musical number. Anyone in the theatre could be the murderer: tough-as-nails producer Carmen Bernstein, bitter director Christopher Belling, estranged writing partners Aaron Fox and Georgia Hendricks, even Frank's love interest, wide-eyed ingénue Niki Harris. It's up to Frank to solve the crime and save the show before his final curtain falls. Boasting a dazzling musical score by John Kander and Fred Ebb, the legendary team behind the hit shows Chicago and Cabaret, Curtains was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score. |

Hawaii Theatre Center presents STORM LARGE Storm Large cartwheeled out of the gutter of her checkered past, across a thousand punk rock stages, and into her infamously googled stint on a rock n' roll reality series. From there she went on to tour the world, singing in 17 different languages, and only behaving herself somewhat, with the joyful little pop orchestra Pink Martini. Ultimately, this route lead to her appearance on the stage of Carnegie Hall singing Kurt Weill with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. |

Proclaimed as the "Pride of the Pacific," the beautiful Hawaii Theatre, built by the Consolidated Amusement Company, opened its doors September 6, 1922 in downtown Honolulu. The Hawaii Theatre operated as a showplace for vaudeville, plays, musicals and silent films until it fell into disrepair and the land lease was abandoned by Consolidated in 1984.
In 1986, the Hawaii Theatre Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation was formed to save the Hawaii Theatre from the wrecking ball and in May 1996, the Hawaii Theatre reopened its doors as a 1400-seat, multi-purpose, state-of-the art performance center.
The Hawaii Theatre was recognized as the 'Outstanding Historic Theatre in America' in 2005 by the League of Historic American Theatres and, in 2006, was awarded an Honor Award by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, the Hawaii Theatre is available for all of Hawaii to enjoy.
Administrative Offices: Monday through Friday; 9AM - 5PM.
