CLOSING: 54th Annual Hawai`i Regional Scholastic Student Art Awards
On view through April 7, 2017 at the Hawai`i State Art Museum
The Hawai`i Regional Scholastic Student Art Awards displays artwork by students in grades 7 -- 12 from across the state. The competition is open to all students (public, charter, home, and private), who enter their work in the official categories of Architecture & Industrial Design, Ceramics & Glass, Comic Art, Design, Digital Art, Drawing & Illustration, Editorial Cartoon, Fashion, Film & Animation, Jewelry, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Video Games, and Art Portfolio (graduating seniors only). Submissions are juried by panels of leaders in the visual arts, and works receiving Gold Key awards have moved to national level judging.
Participating Hawai`i schools this year include: Admiral Arthur W. Radford High School, Aliamanu Middle School, Asia Pacific International School, Hawai`i Baptist Academy, Hawaii Baptist Academy Middle School, Henry Perrine Baldwin High School, Highlands Intermediate School, Honolulu Waldorf High School, Iolani School, James B. Castle High School, James Campbell High School, Kalaheo High School, Kalani High School, Kamehameha Schools (Hawaii, Kapalama, Middle School, and Maui), Le Jardin Academy, Leilehua High School, Mid-Pacific Institute, Mililani High School, Mililani Middle School, Moanalua High School, Niu Valley Middle School, Parker School, President Theodore Roosevelt High School, Punahou School, Seabury Hall School, St. Andrew's Schools, University Lab School, Wahiawa Middle School, and Wai`anae High School. Presented by the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Hawai‘i State Department of Education, Hawai‘i Art Education Association, Hawai‘i Association of Independent Schools, and Friends of the Hawai‘i State Art Museum.
The Hawai`i State Department of Education is the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards regional affiliate for the entire state of Hawai`i.
HiSAM is located at 250 South Hotel Street in downtown Honolulu. Admission is always free.
Museum hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Closed Sunday, Monday, and all state and federal holidays.

Additional information: Second floor outdoor courtyard; seating will be provided. Museum galleries will be open (entry and admission are always free), including the newest exhibit, "54th Annual Hawai`i Regional Scholastic Art Awards", featuring student works from across the state of Hawai`i, and the "I Love Art" hands-on activity room for kids.

SLOW ART DAY at HiSAM
"I don't know how to look at art" - take a free tour and explore different ways to look at and experience art at this Slow Art Day event. Slow Art Day is an international museum event, intended to help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art.

Cost: free, but space is limited. Call or email to reserve a space.
Additional information: Group meets and tours together at 10:00 a.m.; meet at the second floor visitor's desk. Reservations are not required but are recommended due to limited space.

ART AT THE CAPITOL
Annual evening of art at music at the state capitol - participating legislators will keep their doors open late so visitors can see the artwork from the Art in Public Places Collection of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and from the legislator's private collections, and meet artists whose work is on display.
