Free Arts and Music Events

**The hands-on I Love Art Gallery and the Diamond Head Gallery (Accession exhibit) will be closed for a renovation project through mid-September. The Sculpture Garden and second floor courtyard are also closed during building renovation activities and are anticipated to re-open later this year. The `Ewa Gallery and HAWAI`I: Change & Continuity exhibit will remain open.**

FIRST FRIDAY at HiSAM

Shoji Ledward: Solo Jazz Guitar

Live performance by Shoji Ledward, Hoku-nominated jazz guitarist. Museum galleries will be open late. Casual and family-friendly!

Additional information: Second floor outdoor courtyard; seating will be provided. Museum galleries will be open (entry and admission are always free), featuring artwork from the Art in Public Places Collection of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.

Parking: across the street at Ali‘i Place (entrance at 1099 Alakea St.) or Iolani Palace.

Time: 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., while supplies last

Cost: free

Additional information: Multipurpose Room (ground floor, on the right as you enter from the front doors); seating and all materials will be provided. Drop in at any time, allowing at least 30 minutes to complete a project. Due to the popularity of this activity, please be prepared to sign up on a waiting list (sign up when you arrive at the museum).

ARTS CHAT

Arts Chat 6: Arts & Economic Prosperity and Hawaii's Creative Economy

For the sixth installation of Arts Chat program, bringing together members of the arts community to discuss topics of interest, speakers will include Randy I. Cohen, Vice President of Research and Policy, Americans for the Arts (AFTA), and Georja Skinner, Chief Officer, Creative Industries Division, State of Hawai`i Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism. The focus will be on AFTA report Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 (a year-long nationwide study that highlights the impact that nonprofit arts & culture organizations have on our economy through job creation, tourism, direct & indirect spending, household income, and government revenue) and Hawaii's Creative Economy. Presented in collaboration with the Hawai`i Arts Alliance and the State of Hawai`i Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism.

OUR MISSION
To promote, perpetuate, preserve and encourage culture and the arts, history and the humanities as central to the quality of life of the people of Hawai`i. HSFCA funding is provided by the State of Hawai`i and the National Endowment for the Arts. The HSFCA is administratively attached to the Department of Accounting and General Services.

HOURS:
The musuem is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed State and Federal Holdays. Always free admission. For pre-recorded information call 586-0900.
