  • Call for Artists - Apply for the November 9th FEAST!

FEAST (Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics) is a public soirée that uses community-driven financial support to democratically fund new and emerging art makers. FEAST attendees will pay to attend a catered reception, and a portion of that payment will be set aside as a prize. While attendees eat, mingle, and imbibe, three artists will showcase their work and explain their proposed public art project. After the three presenters are finished, attendees vote on which artist's project they wish to award the prize. The upcoming FEAST event will be held:

Seeking Storytellers

Cultures are founded in oral histories. Communities and families are stitched together by memories of a place. One's life is weaved by experiences. Everyone has a story. What's yours?

We are looking for artists of any medium, including photographers, videographers, writers, poets, and musicians, who are interested in telling the story of their community.


At the November 9th FEAST event, three artists will be chosen to give an 8-10 minute presentation. The presentation shouldinclude:

1 Synopsis of the your community's story. This can be doneorally and/orvisually. The audience should be given a short glimpse into your story, and understand the unique characteristicsor issues you are demonstratingthrough your medium of choice (performance, visual display, etc).

2 Description of how you plan to use FEAST funds to share your story with the community-at-large. This could include film screenings, gallery display, online blog, and the like.

Following the presentations, the audience will vote on their favorite artist. The winning artist will be awarded the proceeds from the FEAST event. Moreover, following the event, FEAST coordinators will work with the winning artist, to ensure their artwork is being shared with the community-at-large.


Guidelines:

Interested artists should submit their proposals to hawaiifeasting@gmail.com by midnight on Sunday, October 22nd. Proposals should include:

Description of their proposal (1000 words or less - should include a description of both the storythey are telling, and how they plan to use FEAST funds to disseminate their story to the community-at-large)

Description of how their proposal will positively impact the community (100 words or less)

Evidence of past work (can send either website link, or work examples under 4 MB)

Artists will informed by Monday, October30thif they have been chosen to present at the November 9thFEAST. Submissions will be chosen on the creativity of their proposals, and impact on the community-at-large. The more detail artists can provide, the better.
