Hawai‘i State Art Museum Events
First Friday: a free, family-friendly evening of art and music. 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., first Friday of each month. Take the elevator or stairs to the second floor.

Second Saturday: free art activities for all ages. 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., second Saturday of each month. Drop in at any time, allowing at least 30 minutes to finish a project to take home. Ground floor Multipurpose Room.

Art Lunch: free "meet the artist" presentations. 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., last Tuesday of each month. Bring your own lunch to eat during the presentation.

The cafe and shop are independently operated under lease agreements between the Friends of the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, and the State of Hawai‘i Department of Accounting and General Services.
Current Exhibits
STATE OF ART: new work
Featuring a selection of recent additions to the Art in Public Places Collection of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, this exhibit is an opportunity to see some of the best contemporary art from across the Hawaiian Islands. Opens August 3, 2018. August 3, 2018 - September 2019
EMPHASIZED: eye on scale
Exploring the various ways that artists play with scale, and how this in turn affects the viewer's responses and understanding.
Ongoing (through 2018). Temporarily closed July 8 - August 2, 2018
HAWAI‘I: Change & Continuity
This exhibit tells a story of the past, examining the overlapping influences of nature's bounty and human impact on a fragile environment. As you walk through the exhibit, you will see art that reflects on the forces of nature and man's intrusion. Relevant quotes are placed on walls to help the viewer understand the meaning.

Young Artists of Hawaii
An annual student art exhibition that recognizes creative excellence among Hawaii's public and private school students in grades Kindergarten through sixth grade.
