Mayor Caldwell takes action on bills

Honolulu -- Mayor Kirk Caldwell took action today on the following bills by signing them into law.

Bill 70 (2018), CD1

Relating to Restricted Parking Zones (RPZ). Mayor Caldwell thanks City Council member Carol Fukunaga for working with the Department of Transportation Services (DTS) on this legislation. It's important to note that the success of Restricted Parking Zones depends on residents, neighborhood boards, area representatives, and the Honolulu Police Department working collaboratively to evaluate and select suitable neighborhoods. As noted by DTS during City Council hearings regarding Bill 70, residents who agree to implement an RPZ program can expect to pay about $231 per year for a parking permit, and $77 for a visitor parking permit. However, depending on the size and scope of a proposed RPZ, parking permit fees will vary.

Bill 95 (2018)

To rezone land situated at Moanalua, O‘ahu. Rezones approximately 2.8 acres of land located at 511 Main Street, near Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Elementary School. Zoning is changed from F-1 Military and Federal Preservation District to the R-5 Residential District. The applicant was the Holy Family Catholic Church.
