Community meeting to be held for Oahu's first Pedestrian Plan
- Tweet
HONOLULU – The city’s Department of Transportation Services is pleased to invite the public to attend a meeting for the City and County’s first pedestrian plan.
The O‘ahu Pedestrian Plan is a long-term action plan to create safe, accessible, and vibrant streetscapes. The plan includes an island-wide inventory of existing pedestrian facilities to document their condition, comfort and quality, and a prioritization of improvements that enhance mobility, connectivity, and safety for pedestrians. The O‘ahu Pedestrian Plan will also include technical recommendations for proven safety countermeasures that are consistent with the City and County of Honolulu’s Complete Streets Ordinance and the most recent Federal Highway Administration guidance.
“Walking is one of the best ways to get around, whether it’s a short stroll to get lunch in downtown, or a leisurely walk on the North Shore,” said Mayor Kirk Caldwell. “The city’s goal is to making walking as safe and accessible as possible, and the O‘ahu Pedestrian Plan will ensure that we hear from the walking public. Even if you can’t make the upcoming meeting, you can still get involved by submitting your ideas to the Department of Transportation Services.”
Community engagement is important to ensure the Department of Transportation Services develops recommendations that reflect community needs and character. Please join us for the upcoming meeting and provide your input to this important plan:
April 24, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Aloha Tower Marketplace Multi-Purpose Room 3
1 Aloha Tower Drive, Honolulu, HI 96813
If you cannot attend the meeting, but would still like to submit recommendations or suggestions, please email the Department of Transportation Services at completestreets@honolulu.gov.
For questions and/or comments on the O‘ahu Pedestrian Plan, or if you require special assistance, auxiliary aid and/or service to participate in this event (i.e. sign language interpreter; interpreter for language other than English, or wheelchair accessibility), please contact Nicola Szibbo, Transportation Planner, Department of Transportation Services at (808) 768-8359, allowing one week for accommodations.
