Perspective.
noun: a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view
Our theme this month is “Changing Perspectives.” We all become entrenched in modes of thinking that define our actions. As a sensei and artist, I am a huge fan of helping people become healthier, happier versions of themselves. Sometimes, all it takes is a shift in perspective. Art, in all its forms, is an effective facilitator in changing one’s perceptions.
This June, we challenge you to be open to shifts in your own perspectives. Convergence Dance Theatre is back with an expanded B is for Body, an Oah’u Fringe favorite. The gallery exhibit will include more works from the collection of The Friends of the Library before transitioning to the Sailor Jerry Tattoo Art Exhibition.
And we are excited to present, in conjunction with The Open Home Performance Network, the Hawai’i premiere of Indecent by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel, directed by Lurana O’Malley.

Indecent follows the true-life story of a groundbreaking piece of theatre, Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance, and the passionate artists who risked their lives to perform it. It was nominated for Best Play at the 2017 Tony Awards®. Indecent celebrates the bravery of art and artists. It’s message against censorship resonates today and makes one think.
“It’s times like these when Art matters most.”
So true.
