Aloha Mai Kākou!
Welcome back to our monthly newsletter! We've been spending the last few months adapting to the "current normal," and responding to the shifting federal and local guidelines about how to keep our staff and artists safe. As part of that process, we wanted to let you know that we're still here! —and still doing what we do best: supporting and providing a haven for the arts in Chinatown, Honolulu, both online and in the Susan Rogers-Aregger Gallery. If you haven't gotten a chance to visit yet, our August show ALTER-ART, featuring the creative talents of six Hawaiʻi-based tattoo artists, is definitely one to see. We'd love to see you in our space, but you can also see the exhibit without having to leave your house; just check out our virtual gallery! If you fall in love with a piece, you can even buy it from our online store and we'll ship it to you.
Shout-out to our creative partners at the Hawaiʻi Shakespeare Festival for another fantastic season — in addition to the usual challenges, this yearʻs pandemic meant the actors and directors had the task of converting live Shakespeare to the online mediums of Zoom and YouTube. The work was innovative, and well-received, and we hosted secure and socially-distant watch parties on each of the opening nights. We're also preparing for our upcoming exhibits, featuring work by "Friend of the ARTS" Jeff Gere in September and our artistic partner Hawai‘i Watercolor Society. More details to come!
Thank you again for all the support and love that you show to The ARTS at Marks Garage. We can't wait to see you in the space some time soon!
