Road Tests Moving From Kapalama Hale To Sheridan Community Park
- Tweet
HONOLULU – The city’s Department of Customer Services announced today that beginning Monday, Oct. 12, its largest road test site will be temporarily relocated to help alleviate traffic congestion in the months ahead.
All road tests at the Kapalama Driver Licensing Center on Dillingham Boulevard in Kalihi are being moved three miles away to the Sheridan Community Park at 833 Piikoi St. in Makiki.
Road test routes at the Kapalama Driver Licensing Center are in the path of construction work for the elevated rail system and expected to cause congestion, prompting the city to move the site’s capacity to conduct up to 130 road tests a day to the Sheridan Community Park for potentially the next few years.
Only road tests for a driver license will move to the new Sheridan Park Road Test Office. Normal business hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, until the end of the year, the Sheridan Road Test Office will also open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Written tests and other driver license and state identification card services will remain at the Kapalama Driver Licensing Center.
“This adjustment will help lessen the traffic impact on area businesses,” said Sheri Kajiwara, director of the city’s Department of Customer Services. “It should also allow us to reduce the time that road test applicants spend in traffic, allowing us to more efficiently serve customers with an appointment for this service.”
The city has adopted new health and safety measures for road tests. Applicants must wear a facial covering; complete a health-screening questionnaire; pass a temperature check; keep air conditioner off and windows rolled down during the road test, as well as show up no later than 15 minutes before an appointment.
