City Elderly Care Facilities to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine
The City's West Loch Elderly Village in ‘Ewa Beach and Mānoa Gardens are both preparing for the first round of COVID-19 vaccines. CVS, under a direct contract with the federal government, will be running vaccination clinics at both senior housing facilities and have assigned a pharmacist for each site. Long-term care facilities are included in Hawai‘i's first phase of vaccinations, Phase 1-A, which began in mid-December.
"Protecting our most vulnerable population, our k
ūpuna, and the members of our community working at these properties is incredibly important," said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. "Mahalo to CVS and the property manager of these long-term care facilities for making this effort possible. Getting more of our island inoculated marks a crucial step forward in our path to recovery."
Any resident on-site, their live-in caretakers, and all site staff are eligible to receive the vaccine at these clinics. There is no cost involved to the tenants. If a resident has Medicaid/Medicare or any form of health insurance, the pharmacist will collect that information from them. If there are residents who do not have any type of insurance that would cover the vaccine, it will be done at zero cost and free to the resident(s).
Mānoa Gardens will have its first vaccination clinic, this Saturday, January 9. West Loch Elderly Village will have its clinic on Thursday, January 14. A second and third clinic will be held in both February and March. Both have already been scheduled so residents can get their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Pharmacists will be able to go door-to-door for residents unable to leave their units or who do not feel safe doing so. Both vaccination clinics will be held in the Community Center.
