Oʻahu public schools can apply to the Art Bento program for free arts education in the classroom and at the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum. This program is for grades 2 - 6.

Applications for the Art Bento museum education program at the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum are open January 15 - March 12, 2021. This four-part museum education program is for State of Hawaiʻi Department of Education Oʻahu schools, grades 2 - 6. The program includes professional development for classroom teachers, guided tours in the museum galleries, art making lessons with a highly qualified teaching artist, and exploration of art concepts through hands-on activities. Art Bento is designed to engage students and teachers through activities connected to current arts standards and English Language Arts (ELA) Common Core Standards. This program is free for schools and bus transportation is included.

Due to COVID-19, school year 2020-2021 Art Bento activities were conducted online. The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is prepared to run the program either in-person or online for school year 2021-2022.

The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) is Hawaiʻi’s state government arts agency. The mission of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is to promote, perpetuate, and preserve culture and the arts in Hawai‘i. SFCA funding is provided by the State of Hawai‘i and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Hawai‘i State Art Museum is a part of the SFCA Art in Public Places Program, serving as a venue for the Art in Public Places Collection of artworks as well as a learning laboratory for students. Artworks from the collection are also on display at hundreds of sites statewide, including schools, libraries, hospitals, airports, state office buildings, and the State Capitol.
