Wahiawa Botanical Garden Pedestrian Bridge Restoration Beginning Next Month
- Tweet
WAHIAWĀ – A project to restore the 61-year-old pedestrian bridge spanning Wahiawā Botanical Garden is scheduled to begin this February.
The extensive project includes a variety of structural repairs and mitigation measures, but does not involve any ground disturbance. That work includes: repairing spalled concrete, replacing joint seals, retrofitting severely corroded components of the bridge’s structure, and coating all exposed steel surfaces with a corrosion treatment.
This bridge connecting Glen Avenue with California Avenue will be closed for the duration of the project, which is scheduled to be finished by winter 2021. Following the completion of the restoration project, the bridge is scheduled to reopen under its regular 24/7 access.
There is expected to be some impact to vehicular traffic near the bridge entrance on Glen Avenue, however this project is not anticipated to have any impact on the public’s access to Wahiawā Botanical Garden or its parking lot. We urge garden visitors and the public to avoid the construction area during the project.
The nearly $1.95 million construction contract for this project was awarded to Abhe & Svoboda, Inc.
