City supporting Wai‘anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center

HONOLULU -- As coronavirus cases continue to rise in the City and County of Honolulu, so has the demand for testing along O‘ahu's west coast. In response to the immediate need for support, four personnel from the Honolulu Fire Department's (HFD) Community Relations Office are working on-site today, Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at the Wai‘anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center (WCCHC) to support testing efforts. The demand for COVID-19 testing at WCCHC is unmatched and the City is glad to help provide testing to all in need.

"We are fighting an invisible enemy," said Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi. "We can't create a good defense unless we know where the enemy exists. Proper testing will expose the threat of clusters allowing us the opportunity to set up our defenses to slow the spread of this virus in each of our communities. Mahalo to our heroes at HFD, who have consistently been on the frontlines of this defense. Their efforts at Wai‘anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center are yet another way they protect our communities and save lives."

Going forward, the HFD will continue to send up to ten personnel, as needed, to Wai‘anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, Monday through Friday, to provide support.

"Since the start of this pandemic, the HFD has been committed to mitigating the spread of this virus and protecting communities all over Oʻahu. From testing to vaccination efforts, our personnel has stepped up to provide support wherever and whenever needed," said HFD Acting Chief Lionel Camara Jr. "The HFD responds and we are happy to assist the WCCHC."

The HFD is also pursuing further and different opportunities to provide additional testing sites on the Wai‘anae Coast.
