New COVID-19 walk-up testing site available at the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell Starting Sept 22, 2021
HONOLULU -- The City and County of Honolulu, in coordination with Nomi Health, will launch its second COVID-19 testing site in Honolulu at the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell (Shell) beginning Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday of this week. Beginning next week, the site will move to daily testing Monday through Friday during the same hours. Participants will be able to choose the Binax Now or CareStart rapid antigen test, with their result available in one hour or a PCR nasal swab with the test result available within 24-48 hours. Both testing options satisfy the requirements of the Safe Access O‘ahu program, which began on Sept. 13.
Patients are required to register online to book appointments, which are available every five minutes. They will receive a QR code which they should bring with them to their appointment, along with a valid ID. Insurance cards are welcome, but not required. Pre-registration and an appointment are required for this testing site.
"Last week, we completed nearly 3,500 COVID-19 drive-through tests at the Blaisdell Arena and look forward to brisk drive-through traffic at the site," said Mark Newman, co-founder and CEO, Nomi Health. "We recently opened our Hilo testing site at Waiakea Center on the Big Island and have plans for a total of seven testing sites on Oahu by Oct. 1."
The new walk-up site at the Shell will be located inside the entry to the main gates. Ample free parking is available in the Kapi‘olani Park parking lot fronting the Shell at 2805 Monsarrat Ave. In addition to the general public line, Nomi Health will introduce a Kupuna (60+) Line and Healthcare Workers Line to queue up for testing. The results will be texted to the cell phone provided upon registration. Patients who chose the Binax Now rapid antigen option may wait for their results and speak to a clinician if they have any questions.
Nomi Health, the direct healthcare company coordinating COVID-19 testing and vaccination efforts across the country, currently conducts COVID-19 testing on Oahu at BYU-Hawaii and the Polynesian Cultural Center, the Blaisdell Arena and Shell, in addition to the Waiakea Center in Hilo on the Big Island. Four new testing locations will launch in the next two weeks.
The tests are being provided at the Shell and Blaisdell Arena at no cost to the City or patient. We are thankful to Nomi Health for coordinating the testing and paying the associated costs.
