DOWNTOWN ART CENTER PRESENTS ‘THINKING IN COLOR: THE ART OF ROBERT MACE’ IN THE DAC PERFORMANCE SPACE, APRIL 1-30

Honolulu (April 2020) –Downtown Art Center at 1041 Nuʻuanu Ave., Second Floor, in Honolulu's historic Chinatown Gateway Plaza, is proud to present Thinking In Color: The Art of Robert Mace, in its second floor Performance Space. This solo show by Hawaiʻi artist and curator Robert Mace, who works with big, bold colors in a variety of media, is an exciting riot of surprising, brightly colored images in acrylic and mixed media. The show will be available for viewing during regular gallery hours, Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., until April 30.

A free, public artist’s reception will be held on First Friday, April 1, from 5:30-8 p.m.

“My art practice can best be described as “my kid could do that,” says Mace. “Up until about 13 years ago, I was one of those fearful adults who always presumed I had no artistic talent. Then, one day, I picked up some colored pencils and did a very silly drawing. Well, that just affirmed the fact that I had no artistic talent. But I enjoyed it. So, putting my fear aside, I kept at it. What you see in this show, talent or no talent, is the result of putting my doubts and fears aside and just indulging in a practice I can’t seem to do without.”

This show coincides with the Hawaiʻi Watercolor Society 2022 Members' Show, on view in DAC's main gallery until April 30. For more details about either of these exhibitions, as well as other current and upcoming shows, classes and events, visit downtownarthi.org.
