Kapolei City Lights returning to full capacity this holiday season!
Festivities, including a block party and holiday parade, being Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022
O‘AHU -- Holiday cheer is returning to Kapolei this December!
The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is proud to announce a full scale, in-person Kapolei City Lights Celebration at Kapolei Hale beginning Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022.
The festivities begin with a block party at 5 p.m. followed by a holiday parade beginning at 6 p.m. All of these cheerful activities are free and open to the public!
The block party will include a variety of vendors and activities for all ages located at Ala Kahawai and Ulu‘ōhi‘a streets near Kapolei Hale. Musical performances by Jahli‘i, Teanu Music, and some surprise guests will add to the lively outdoor event. Participants will also be able to get the first look at the colorful decorations on display inside and outside of Kapolei Hale through the holiday season. This year, the decorations are inspired by our underwater environment, with coral reef, marine animals, and other ocean-themed inspiration!
Serving as the centerpiece outside of Kapolei Hale is the 45' tall holiday tree on the mauka-end of the building. Our City arborists search island-wide for a Cook Pine Tree to serve as the holiday tree for both the Honolulu and Kapolei city light celebrations. For Kapolei, it can't just be any old pine tree; our arborists look for tree with full and evenly dispersed branches, which is at least 50' tall, and must be in a location where they can safely harvest and transport it. After it is installed, the tree is adorned with a luminous array of lights and ornaments.
DPR is also proud to revitalize the Kapolei City Lights Holiday Parade beginning at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10. The parade will begin on Fort Barrette Road outside of Kapolei High School, turn left onto Kapolei Parkway (the primary viewing area), and end at Kama‘aha Street.
Following the opening night festivities, the interior and exterior of Kapolei Hale will be open to the public to experience the various decorations until Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.
Since the inaugural celebration in 2001, Kapolei City Lights has been spreading holiday cheer to this ever-growing Leeward O‘ahu community as a complement to Honolulu City Lights.
Kapolei City Lights is held at Kapolei Hale, at 1000 Ulu‘ōhia Street, Kapolei, HI 96707.
