Mayor encourages Oʻahu residents to participate in 2022 National Community Survey of Honolulu Residents
HONOLULU -- Mayor Rick Blangiardi on Tuesday encouraged all Oʻahu residents to participate in the 2022 National Community Survey of Honolulu Residents, a research effort that helps capture the opinions of Oʻahu residents on a variety of topics, including the current quality of City services and what the City's priorities should be over the course of the next two years.
The survey, a collaboration between the National Research Center at Polco and the International City/County Management Association, is conducted in conjunction with the Office of the City Auditor of the City and County of Honolulu. At the conclusion of the survey, the Office of the City Auditor publishes a comprehensive report that includes the findings of the research effort.
"We're very appreciative of the Office of the City Auditor, for the tireless effort that they put into this survey every year, and we are even more grateful for the time that our residents spend sharing their thoughts on the many important topics that directly impact the quality of life for everyone on Oʻahu," said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. "Your feedback directly influences the decision-making process for our communities, and we encourage everyone to participate in this effort."
The six-page, 30-question survey is available online at https://polco.us/honolulu22op. A random scientific sample of Oʻahu residents were sent hard copies of the same survey via the U.S. Postal Service earlier this month, with the option to complete the survey online. If you received a survey invitation in the mail, please complete that version rather than responding to the open participation survey. Respondents can fill out the survey until December 13, 2022.
"As we begin the 14th year that the NCS has been conducted in Honolulu, the Office of the City Auditor is grateful for our partnership with the City Council, Mayor, Managing Director, and other city officials in promoting and supporting our survey efforts," said City Auditor Arushi Kumar. "The open participation portion of the survey is intended to give all residents of O'ahu a voice in important decision-making for the city and county. The success of the survey depends on residents taking the time to make their voices heard, and we look forward to sharing the results early next year."
The 2022 National Community Survey of Honolulu Residents includes questions asking:
- Residents to rate quality of life in Honolulu, including as a place to live, as a place to visit and as a place to retire
- Residents to rate how safe or unsafe they feel in their neighborhoods, as well as in Honolulu's downtown and commercial districts
- Residents to rate the quality of services in Honolulu, including street repairs, sidewalk maintenance, emergency response services and preservation of natural areas
- Residents to rate how important it is to them for the City to improve walking and biking opportunities, improve maintenance and repair of parks and park facilities or develop a new tourism model to help protect our environment
In 2021, the City & County of Honolulu received two Voice of the People Awards -- Transformation in Parks & Recreation and Transformation in Health & Wellness -- based on residents' responses to the NCS. These awards are the only national awards given to local government based on the opinion of community residents. Honolulu was one of only three municipalities from across the country to receive multiple awards.
After the National Research Center at Polco compiles the survey results, the Office of the City Auditor's report publishing the survey's findings will be released in early 2023.
