February 2024
CALL TO ARTISTS! Please click on image above to submit your entry for the ONCE UPON A TIME exhibit. This show runs February 2-23, 2024, at The ARTS at Marks Garage. Deadline for entry is Saturday, January 20, 2024. Selected participants will be notified by Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
"Once Upon a Time, in a land far, far away..." Those magical words transported us as children into worlds unknown. Fantasies and adventures awaited us at the end of that sentence. We are going to re-create that magical realm in February, as we celebrate National Fairytale Month! Curators MaryAnne Long and Elizabeth O'Brien are soliciting ORIGINAL 2D and 3D art that sweeps us off our feet and into a dimension where we can suspend our disbelief for a little while. You are limited only by your imagination, so get creative! We are requiring that all works submitted have never previously been shown in the gallery at The ARTS at Marks Garage. You may submit up to four pieces for consideration. Each piece should not exceed 30 inches on the longest side. There will also be a "pop-up" room for prints, cards, studies, and other pieces for artists participating in the exhibit. Pop-up pieces will be available for purchase every day of the exhibit.
While there is no upfront submission fee to enter, a $75 participation fee will be charged upon acceptance in the show. This fee contributes to a small portion of the cost of hosting the month-long exhibit, including an opening and closing reception. This is an "evolving show," which means that works may be taken once sold. This provides the artists an opportunity to replace items for additional showings and sales. If you sell at least $500 of work, the participation fee will be returned at time of settlement. There is a 70% / 30% sales split. 30% of gross sales to be donated to The ARTS at Marks Garage to help fund and operate future programs.
In our twenty-year journey, The ARTS at Marks Garage, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has become the most inclusive and diverse community arts incubator in Honolulu, providing opportunities and a safe space for every individual to grow in the arts. We cannot do this alone, and are grateful for the individuals and organizations who help us continue our mission to serve the community, revitalize the neighborhood, and support emerging local artists in all creative mediums.

Empowered women empower women, and these women mean it! Curators MaryAnne Long and Elizabeth O'Brien are soliciting ORIGINAL 2D and 3D art created by women, to celebrate Women's History Month. In its third year, the HERSTORY exhibit is a powerful demonstration of the creativity women possess, and we are proud to host this annual exhibit again.
