Showing at the Downtown Art Center, 1041 Nu`uanu Avenue, 2nd Floor, Honolulu

Theme: FLOW, The Liquid World of Watercolor and Glass

Opening reception open to the public on First Friday, April 5, 5:30-7:30 pm

Gallery hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11-6 pm, Sunday 11-4 pm.

The show features work by 33 member artists all working with water media. Subject matter ranges from landscape and botanicals to figures to abstract. Also featured are recent works by Hawaiian glass artists (not juried).

Our juror for this show is esteemed watercolor a rtist Dan Marshall, a popular demonstrator and instructor from Denver, Colorado. An avid plein air painter, Dan maintly works on location and has written and been featured in articles for Watercolor Artist, Southwestern Art, and Outdoor Painter.com with multiple awards from juried shows and invitational exhibitions.

Founded in 1962, the non-profit Hawai`i Watercolor Society aims to nurture and stimulate interest in water media through education, exhibits, and collaboration with
other organizations and individuals. HWS sponsors two major exhibitions each year and offers workshops with nationally recognized teaching artists.

The Hawaii Watercolor Society is open to anyone interested in the art of watercolor. Our mission is to nurture and stimulate interest in water media through education, exhibitions, and collaboration with other organizations, associations, and individuals.

All HWS members receive a monthly newsletter in the mail. The HWS Newsletter is a great source of information for shows, watercolor workshops, paint outs, and exhibitions.

MEMBERSHIP
Annual membership dues are $40 dollars a year. To join us, please download membership application form print out, fill in and mail with enclosed check.

HISTORY
The Hawaii Watercolor Society was founded in 1962 by Hon Chew Hee. He was honored as Artist of the Year by the Hawaii State Legislature in 1986. In 1987, the Society dedicated it's 25th Silver Jubilee Exhibition to him. Given Honorary Life Membership in recognition of his service to the society, Hon Chew Hee passed away in 1993. In his memory, a Best in Show award is given at the biannual Hawaii Watercolor Society's shows.

In 1991, in recognition of their long service to our organization, HWS gave Honorary Life Membership status to Karin Latham and Jeanne Robertson.

In 2004, in recognition of their long service as Workshop Chairs, HWS gave Honorary Life Membership status to Helen C. Iaea and Rita J. Gustie.
